The Polish Chopin Piano Competition is organised by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute with the cooperation of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.   The 49th edition will begin on the 25th of November. The competition has three stages, and its jury, headed by Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, is made up of Ewa Bukojemska, Alicja Kledzik, Wojciech Świtała, Stefan Wojtas and Paweł Zawadzki.
The event has been held in Warsaw since 1968 and is one of the oldest national music competitions inscribed in the tradition of the Fryderyk Chopin Artistic Scholarships Piano Competitions.   The competition is addressed to Polish musical youth – students of Music Academies and Secondary Music Schools. Its programme is changing. The repertoire, in which compositions by Fryderyk Chopin are a permanent feature, also includes works by other composers – technically demanding, complicated and formally complex, which present young performers with various difficulties of interpretation. In the finale, the participants perform a selected piano concerto accompanied by a symphony orchestra.
The auditions for the 49th edition of the competition will take place from the 25th of November to the 1st of December and will be open to the public (free admission). The 1st and 2nd stages will be held in the Concert Hall of the Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw, while the final performances and the winners’ concert will take place in the Concert Hall of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. The Jerzy Semkow Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, conducted by Marek Moś, will accompany the pianists during the final performances and the winners’ concert. The Winners’ Concert will take place on the 2nd of December at 5 p.m.
