The 150th birth anniversary of the greatest Danish composer, Carl Nielsen, provides an excellent context for the presentation of Scandinavian music to the audience in Warsaw. In his large oeuvre, Nielsen combines European musical traditions with native folklore. Our "mini-festival of Scandinavian music" will consist not only of Nielsen’s compositions, but also – and perhaps most importantly – of folk and contemporary folk-inspired music by artists from Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Folk Meets Symphonic Music

"Being on stage with a symphony orchestra was a dream we never believed would come true," wrote the Dreamers’ Circus musicians on their website. In 2011, however, they were addressed with a proposal to write folk-symphonic pieces to be performed with the Copenhagen Philharmonic. This program, entitled 60 minutes of Dreams, consisted of five compositions by Nikolaj Busk and Ale Carr, orchestrated by one of Scandinavia’s best arrangers and conductors, Hans Ek, who demonstrated great intuition translating the Nordic folk sound into the language of symphonic music. On 12th March, Dreamers’ Circus will play with The Polish "Sinfonia Iuventus" Orchestra conducted by a talented young conductor, Rafał Janiak, who graduated in conducting and composition from Warsaw’s F. Chopin University of Music. Numerous awards in conducting competitions brought him a contract with, among others, Warsaw Philharmonic, where he assisted Antoni Wit (2012/2013) and Jacek Kaspszyk (2013/2014). /Urszula Oleksiak/
