FIRST SINFONIA IUVENTUS CONCERT IN THE NEW BUILDING OF THE POLISH HISTORY MUSEUM

x

Warsaw has gained a magnificent new concert hall, and our Orchestra was honoured to take part in its inauguration! The long-awaited Museum of Polish History opened in the Citadel area after years of being under construction. This important new institution on the cultural map of the capital will certainly be visited by crowds, but it is also worth emphasising that the building contains a modern, functional auditorium and concert hall with a capacity of 577 seats. It will become a regular concert venue for Jerzy Semkow’s Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra. On 28 September 2023, a gala opening concert was held there with the participation of Polish government representatives including the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Piotr Gliński. The concert was broadcast by TVP Kultura and Polish Radio Programme II.
The first part featured an extraordinary performance of fragments of Krzysztof Penderecki’s monumental Polish Requiem, which is a moving tribute to the tragic events in Polish contemporary history, while the second part featured Fryderyk Chopin’s works interpreted by pianists Janusz Olejniczak and Tomasz Ritter. Both parts of the concert complemented each other perfectly, providing a thoughtful story of Polish national past and an invitation to reflect on Polish history and Polish culture.
Penderecki’s masterpiece was sung by outstanding soloists: Iwona Hossa, Anna Lubańska, Rafał Bartmiński and Piotr Nowacki, the Cracow Philharmonic Choir and our Orchestra conducted by Kirill Karabits. Please follow the announcements of our next concerts in this beautiful hall with excellent acoustics!
