November 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of Polish independence. In honor of this national celebration, PWM Edition presents ‘100 for 100. Musical Decades of Freedom’, a project which, besides its artistic dimension, will be of historical promotional and educational importance for Poland, allowing audiences around the world to become acquainted with a representative sample of music written by Polish composers over the last 100 years.

“100 for 100” BOX is an exclusive set documenting the last 100 years of Polish music. It contains 36 CDs with 100 works performed by outstanding Polish artists (Polish Radio archive recordings and also new recordings made especially for this programme): Warsaw Philharmonic, The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, National Forum of Music, Orchestra of Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, Sinfonia Iuventus, Sinfonia Varsovia, Aukso Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Silesian Quartet, Polish Radio Choir, Camerata Silesia, Łukasz Borowicz, Jacek Kaspszyk, Jan Krenz, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Marek Moś, Grzegorz Nowak, Antoni Wit, just to name a few.

Featuring a selection of the 100 most important works of Polish music, the works selected for publication and recording will include works by protagonists of inter-war modernism, such as Karol Szymanowski, modern-day classics, including Witold Lutosławski and Andrzej Panufnik, representatives of the Polish Composition School, led by Tadeusz Baird, Krzysztof Penderecki and Kazimierz Serocki, composers with an exceptionally strong connection to the national-Catholic tradition, such as Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Wojciech Kilar and younger composers achieving success on the international music scene: Paweł Łukaszewski, Paweł Mykietyn and Agata Zubel.

The pieces were recorded in the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw, on January 29-30, 2018.
