The Henryk Górecki Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice, by a decision of the Jury of the Platinum Laurel of Skills and Competence, as awarded the Platinum Laurel of Skills and Competence 2017 in the Culture category. The Jury recognised the artistic activity of the Silesian Philharmonic and its Director, Professor Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk.
The history of this honourable distinction dates back to 1992, when activists of the economic local government, gathered in the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Katowice, introduced an initiative to reward outstanding people, distinguished companies, organisations and institutions, which actively and effectively joined the process of creating the market economy, its restructuring and adapting to European standards.
