Jerzy Semkow has died

 Jerzy Semkow (1928-2014)

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Maestro Jerzy Semkow on December 23.
He was one of the noblest figures who shaped the Polish musical culture – a perfect artist and director, who exuded a mystical aura of art and remarkable personality. It was a great gift which both the musicians and the audiences found infectious.
He enjoyed enormous, unquestioned respect and reputation – an authority of a grand master, rooted in his talent and achievement.
Jerzy Semkow had a visionary idea – to create an orchestra of young talented musicians: the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra. He was our "founding father" and a true guardian spirit in the Orchestra’s early years.
This Orchestra, we deeply believe, will always be a living embodiment of his ideals.
We bid farewell to our Master with heavy hearts.
