Opening Concert of the 2026/2027 Anniversary Season
At the beginning of the 2026/27 season, the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra named after Jerzy Semkow embarks on the celebration of its 20th anniversary. Over the past two decades, the orchestra has become a true breeding ground for young talent—an important stage in the careers of musicians who now perform with leading orchestras in Poland and abroad. It has also given hundreds of concerts and countless unforgettable musical experiences, where youthful energy meets the highest artistic standards. The anniversary season will open with a special concert conducted by Wojciech Rodek, featuring three outstanding soloists and The University of Warsaw Academic Choir. The programme includes the world premiere of Tomasz Skweres' Piano Concerto, a jubilee commission that also commemorates the centenary of Andrzej Wajda's birth. Structured in three movements, the work reflects three of the acclaimed filmmaker's movies and three facets of youth: courage, ruthlessness and nostalgia. The soloist will be Ignacy Lisiecki. Also on the programme is Henryk Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 1 in F-sharp minor, Op. 14, a dazzlingly virtuosic work composed when the composer was just twenty years old, combining brilliant technical display with lyrical expressiveness. The solo part will be performed by the acclaimed young violinist Gaja Wilewska. The concert concludes with Karol Szymanowski's Harnasie for tenor, mixed choir and orchestra, the composer's most complete expression of his national and folk-inspired style. The vocal forces will feature The University of Warsaw Academic Choir and tenor Marcin Franc.
