Anniversary Concert Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the Warmian-Masurian Philharmonic in Olsztyn
On 21 March 2026, a remarkable anniversary concert celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Warmian-Masurian Philharmonic took place at the Urania Hall in Olsztyn.
The evening featured a monumental work – Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in C minor “Resurrection.” This is one of the most demanding and moving pieces in the symphonic repertoire, reflecting on life, death, and rebirth.
The stage hosted large combined performing forces: the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra named after Jerzy Semkow and the Symphony Orchestra of the Warmian-Masurian Philharmonic, joined by combined choirs from Olsztyn, Warsaw, and Łódź. The concert was conducted by Alexandr Iradyan, Artistic Director of the Warmian-Masurian Philharmonic.
The solo parts were performed by outstanding artists: Magdalena Stefaniak (soprano) and Ewa Marciniec (mezzo-soprano), whose interpretations added a deeply emotional dimension to the evening.
The concert was exceptional in scale – nearly 500 performers appeared on stage, while an audience of around 3,500 filled the hall, creating a unique atmosphere of focus, emotion, and shared experience. The event is already being described as a historic moment for the region’s musical life.
It was an evening that demonstrated the true power of music – bringing artists and audiences together in one profound, shared experience. The 80th anniversary of the Warmian-Masurian Philharmonic became not only an opportunity to reflect on its rich history, but also a testament to its ongoing role in shaping the cultural life of the region.
