to become familiar with a wide range of works from the orchestral repertoire and to perform premieres of works by contemporary composers

to develop artistically in both symphonic and chamber ensembles

to participate in development workshops and sectional rehearsals under the guidance of mentors – principal players or section leaders from other professional orchestras

to familiarise yourself with the structure of the orchestra and take on other important roles within it e.g. as a section leader, concertmaster or orchestra inspector

to prepare for auditions for professional orchestras under the guidance of experienced teachers
