Description

The debut album by the exceptionally talented young percussionist Amelia Salloum, recorded with the Jerzy Semkow Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, is a bold and innovative project that showcases the percussion as a solo instrument with extraordinary expressive potential. The album combines a contemporary repertoire with new compositions recorded for the first time.

Amelia Yasmeena Salloum (born in Wrocław) – a charismatic percussionist of the younger generation, whose music is a meeting of rhythm, timbre and emotion. Since the age of six, she has been constantly developing her passion for percussion instruments, discovering their limitless sound possibilities.

The repertoire of the album “Pulsar” features works by Polish composers for solo percussion accompanied by a string orchestra. These pieces are particularly close to the artist’s heart, as they were either dedicated to her or premiered and recorded for the first time anywhere in the world.

Dr Krystian Skubała’s piece “The Source” is a composition for multi-percussion (marimba, vibraphone, congas, bongos, bass drum and cymbals) and string orchestra. It is a combination of space, delicacy and fire. Dr Krystian Skubała conducts his artistic and educational activities in Wrocław, which gave Amelia the opportunity to work personally with the composer on the piece and the recordings.

“Sequenza 24”, a composition by Piotr Dziubek, was dedicated to Amelia Salloum and her teacher Andrzej Waloszczyk on the occasion of the Graduation Concert at the General Music School in Wrocław. The world premiere took place with the School Symphony Orchestra, and shortly afterwards “Sequenza 24” was performed once more with the Polish Radio Orchestra at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio in Warsaw during the Young Musician of the Year 2024 Competition.

The final track on the “Pulsar“ album is “Blue Line“ by Prof. Marta Ptaszyńska for solo marimba. It showcases a wide range of the performer’s technical capabilities and the tonal possibilities of the marimba.
