Concert „One hundred years of the Independence”

The music of Latin America is fascinating in its remarkable diversity – it brings together ancient traditions of the folklore of indigenous peoples with what was brought in by the many newcomers – Iberian colonisers, slaves from Africa and immigrants from around the world. This cultural melting pot thus shimmers like a kaleidoscope with many rhythms, scales and harmonies. It is also very diverse geographically – just like the landscapes of the beautiful continent with a difficult history.
Peruvian composer, accordionist and conductor Alejandro Núñez Allauca (born in 1943) gave concerts in many countries and ultimately settled in Italy, where his music (created in many diverse styles and genres) became particularly popular. The composer never forgot about his Peruvian roots, often citing and stylising the characteristic musical motifs of his homeland.
He gave them a particularly interesting expression in one of his most famous and most magnificent compositions: Misa Andina (Andean Mass), composed in 1997 as a tribute to John Paul II. The impressive work quickly gained considerable popularity, admired in the cathedral in Lima, then in many churches in Italy and on numerous stages of the world. It is a different work from the very popular Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez, which also draws on the South American style, as well as Spanish Words with the use of folk and popular instruments.
Núñez’ composition is a more “canonical” approach to the full Latin mass, also referring musically to the great and ancient traditions of the form – but also with interesting, sublime stylisations of music from the picturesque Andes. The interior of the St John’s Archcathedral in Warsaw will be a worthy stage for the performance of this work devoted to the Absolute, and its musical setting will be provided – along with the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra – by excellent soloists: Dorota Lachowicz, Justyna Stępień, Rafał Bartmiński and Robert Gierlach.Piotr Grinholc will play the cathedral’s excellent organ, while the W. Skoraczewski Artos Choir will perform the spectacular choral parts. The concert will be led by Marek Wroniszewski, a very talented conductor of the young generation, named the best Polish participant by the jury of the 10th G. Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors in Katowice.
