The idea of a music festival dedicated to the memory of the outstanding singer, Krystyna Jamroz, a soloist of the Grand Theatre in Warsaw, came about in 1987, one year after the artist’s death, when a commemorative plaque dedicated to the singer’s memory, was unveiled in the building of the “Krystyna” sanatorium in her hometown of Busko-Zdrój. Bogusław Kaczyński, an outstanding music populariser, was the originator of the idea. It took eight years for the project to be completed.
The first edition of the festival, under the direction of Artur Jaroń, who has successfully run this prestigious event to this day, took place in 1995 and turned out to be a great success, which resulted in a cyclical continuation of the event in subsequent years. It hosted the most outstanding artists, presenting a wide repertoire spectrum, with the always emphasised role of Polish music and beautiful singing.
This year, the 24th edition of the Festival will be held, as always, very rich, varied, hosted in many places of the beautiful health resort. The Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra has the honour of performing at the inauguration of the Festival, in a concert which will be a dazzling retrospective of Polish music. Under the baton of Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk, with the participation of exquisite soloists, compositions from the 19th and 20th centuries will be performed, and its main protagonist will be the grand master of Polish opera, Stanisław Moniuszko. His unforgettable arias and orchestral interludes will be contrasted with the works of his predecessors on the first national stage (Stefani, Kurpiński) and those of his successors (Żeleński, Nowowiejski, Różycki). The orchestra will also perform the very popular hit from Andrzej Wajda’s unforgettable adaptation of Pan Tadeusz: “Polonaise” by Wojciech Kilar.
